Relational Play Training

Sometimes it is difficult for parents to know how to play because they have forgotten.  Play is extremely important for children and helps their brain to grow and develop as well as allowing them to process difficult feelings.  When parents play effectively with their children regularly and predictably, it enhances their attachment, builds relationship and encourages healthy development in every area for the child.  I offer training in play therapy techniques for parents and caregivers.  This runs either as single family sessions or group sessions.  Please see below for details.

Relational play training structure

The structure of the training includes an intake session, one or two parent training sessions and, if desired, a parent/child session.

Intake session

In this session, we discuss your particular issues and needs, brainstorm parenting techniques and decide how you would like to proceed.  This session is 50 minutes, includes a maximum of 2 adults and myself and costs $90.

If you are a group, the intake session can be run as a group for a maximum of 6 adults and costs $200 per hour (cost split between the group).

Training session

Training sessions are 2 hours in duration.  We will cover the basics of play, why it is important, what sorts of toys to use, how to structure it and then a variety of play therapy techniques to help you remain present with the child in an effective way.  If run on an individual basis with a single family (max 2 adults), the cost is $180 for the 2 hours.  We can do more than one of these if needed.

If you are a group, the cost is $350 and the maximum number is 6 adults.  Cost is split between the group.

Parent/child play session

In these sessions, you will come to my playroom with your child and play with them and I will be there to coach and help.  This can help build confidence.  These sessions can only be run with one adult and one child at a time and cost $90 per session.  Each session is 50 minutes.
